narrative >> the guaitecas municipality tendered the construction of four tor.shells of 70m2 for a program of mixed use spaces to be occupied by community associations such as a young mothers center. the logistics of transportation determined an ultra-lightweight design with marine ply laminated beams. the folded steel plate design involved a new component that helped rigidize the geometry and received the tenso-compressor tubes. the timber decks were designed by sur-face but located and constructed previously by the municipal architect and their orientation was unusual. the transparent facades were fabricated from curved polycarbonate panels producing a minimalist enclosure with aluminium door and overhanging eaves demonstrating the inherent habitability of the tor.shell geometry.
