narrative>> the restaurant terrace at the dinamarca co-working, with its unique views over the bay, is a constant hive of networking. however the existing off-the-shelf shade umbrellas were regularly harvested by the fierce south winds [100km/hr], the contract for producing a permanent and wind resistant shade emerged, and squareshade was our way of applying the techniques developed in the loopdown project on a smaller scale. the inverted cone ensures the dirt is out of sight, generating shade that is continuous with its surroundings while framed by luminous chromatic surfaces. the tension cable detailing is informed by yacht rigging. the squareshade design is conceived as working in clusters, with different toned membranes and integrated illumination to generate hi-performing atmospheres for restaurant terraces.
